Explosion-Proof Cold Storage

Ensure secure and compliant cold storage for materials that emit flammable vapors with the DT820XP from Polar Leasing. This Class I, Division 1 & 2 explosion-proof walk-in cooler/freezer is designed specifically for hazardous materials across industrial sectors. Ideal for short-term projects, emergency overflow, or seasonal needs, the DT820XP combines safety, durability, and convenience in a fully pre-assembled, ready-to-operate rental solution.

  • Class I Division 1 & 2 Compliance: Designed for environments with continuous (Division 1) or emergency-only (Division 2, up to 10 hours/year) presence of flammable vapors, ensuring safety in hazardous conditions. This ensures safe operation in chemical plants, oil refineries, and other high-risk areas.
  • Electric-Powered Efficiency: No fumes, fuel, or diesel engine noise. Ideal for enclosed or sensitive worksites where air quality and sound levels matter.
  • Pre-Assembled and Ready to Operate: Simply connect to a single-point 240V, 20A, 1PH electrical supply to power both condensing units, with an integrated 240V-to-120V transformer for simplified setup.
  • Redundant Refrigeration: Equipped with two 1 HP condensing units, both required for full operation but allowing continued limited cooling if one unit is offline.
  • Durable Construction: Seamless fiberglass construction ensures durability, corrosion resistance, and easy cleaning, with a compact footprint suitable for any relatively even surface.
  • Flexible Temperature Control: Maintains temperatures from 0°F to 35°F (-18°C to 2°C), ideal for a wide range of perishable or sensitive materials.

Additional Features

Instead of using polystyrene or polyurethane insulation that may have air pockets that allow heat to enter, Polar King walk-in cooler rentals use polyisocyanurate rigid board insulation covered by a seamless fiberglass layer for maximum energy efficiency. The continuous fiberglass provides for all-weather protection outside and an easy-to-clean, sanitary surface inside.

How a Walk-In Cooler Works

Commercial refrigerators are typically insulated cold storage spaces that maintain a temperature of 35-41°F. When the temperature inside of the unit rises above the cooler’s set point, refrigerant enters the compressor as a low-pressure, low-temperature gas from the exterior of the unit. As the refrigerant compresses, its temperature increases proportionately. The gas then passes to the exterior of the unit, radiating excess heat and reducing the refrigerant’s temperature. The refrigerant next passes through an expansion device that relieves its pressure and decreases its temperature, causing it to change state into a liquid form before crossing into the interior of the unit. The now-cooler refrigerant absorbs heat from the insulated space and begins the process again until the unit reaches its desired set point.
